There is a lot of concern about the safety of buildings in Delhi. After the 7.9-magnitude earthquake in Nepal, experts are looking into the safety of the city’s structures.
The Delhi government has prepared a building safety action plan. It will be presented to the Delhi High Court on July 31. This action plan is intended to make the city’s buildings compliant with the national building code.
The action plan also recommends a phased certification process. Owners of buildings may soon be asked to obtain structural safety certificates from empanelled engineers. Moreover, a cess-like tax on property tax is envisaged for the purpose.
